KNP expansion, equity infusion in NRL, concert economy, solar power hog limelight

GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet today took a slew of key decisions regarding the Dibrugarh capital ambition, expanding the reach of the Kaziranga National Park (KNP), equity infusion on NRL, concert economic policy, solar power policy, etc.
The Cabinet met at the Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon today. It approved the construction of a new assembly complex and MLA hostel in Dibrugarh at a cost of Rs 284 crore. The Cabinet also improved the seating capacity of Khanikar Sports Complex Stadium from 5,000 to 35,000 seats at a cost of Rs 209 crore.
The Cabinet approved the proposal for the final notification of a 47,306-hectare area under the sixth addition of the Kaziranga National Park. This expansion, however, will exclude the villages of Gopaljarani, Gonaitapu, Jobre, Thute Sapori, Baligaon, Biswanath Ghat, Umatamoni, Gakhirkhaite, Silghat, and Hatimura.
The Cabinet approved the implementation of the payment of full-notified daily wages (Rs 251) for workers in all ATCL (Assam Tea Corporation Ltd) gardens from October 1, 2025. It approved the release of Rs 205 crore as the fourth and the final call towards the state government’s approved equity investment in NRL. With this call, the Government of Assam will complete an investment of Rs 823 crore for NRL expansion, as committed earlier.
The Cabinet approved the policy for concert tourism in Assam that aims to position Assam as a premier music and entertainment tourism hub to host large-scale concert and music festivals. The first such concert show will be held in Guwahati on December 8, 2025, when US pop star Post Malone will perform.
The Cabinet approved the phase II development of the Lachit Parphukan Police Academy at a cost of Rs 229 crore. The Cabinet also approved the Assam Solar Power Generation Promotion Policy, 2025, which aims to generate 3,500 MW of solar power by 2030 and attract private and public investments in the state to create around 15,000 jobs.
