Silchar: Amid the current row between the two neighbouring countries over the systematic humiliations of the minority Hindus in Bangladesh, good news comes from the bordering district of Sribhumi as the BSF and the BGB resolved the crisis over the renovation of the Manasa temple that falls within 150 yards of the international border.

On Friday, the BSF and its Bangladesh counterpart, BGB, held a flag meeting and arrived at a consensus for the renovation work of the temple, which was in a dilapidated state for years. A local resident said that when they initiated the renovation work yesterday, the BGB raised an alarm, arguing that no civil construction could be done in the international border until a consensus was arrived at by both sides. The locals then intimated the matter to the BSF. On Friday, the BSF inspected the banks of the Kushiyara River along the India-Bangladesh border in Sribhumi. Later, a flag meeting between the border security forces of both countries was held for a prolonged period at the zero line in the middle of the river.

Following the meeting, a decision was arrived at by both forces for the construction work of the temple.

To revive the cultural and spiritual heritage, a fund of Rs 3 lakh from the local MP’s fund was sanctioned for the construction work.

As per international border regulations, no construction activity can be undertaken within 150 yards of the border by either country.

Apart from the Manasa temple, a few more temples are located within 150 yards of the border. However, due to severe river erosion threatening to submerge the temples into the river, temporary work was carried out to prevent this.
