Major Breakthrough in Zubeen Garg’s Death Probe; Assam SIT Gets Singapore’s Autopsy Report

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirms development on October 31; postmortem and toxicology reports reach Assam, paving the way for Chargesheet by December 17.

Guwahati : In a recent development on the ongoing probe into the unfortunate tragedy of Assam’s most cherished cultural icon, Zubeen Garg, the Singapore authorities have handed the singer’s postmortem and toxicology reports to the Assam Police. This marks a significant progress in continuing the inquiry into his death.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma acknowledged the advancement on October 31. He indicates that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) overseeing the case has made ‘substantial progress’, which will help to file the chargesheet before the 90-day deadline. The 10-member SIT has arrested seven accused, all of whom are currently under judicial custody.

In addition, Dr Sarma assures that Singaporean authorities promised full cooperation. They have formally provided the postmortem and toxicology findings along with the guidelines under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT).

Moreover, the CM expressed assurance in the investigation's progress. “The SIT is completely confident in obtaining justice for the late artist.” He ensures that people will appreciate their efforts when the chargesheet is submitted by December 17.

The chief minister reaffirmed that the state government is still committed to conducting a comprehensive investigation into the matter. He further emphasised that other significant state concerns would not be overlooked.

Aiming at the Congress, Sarma accused into opposition party of attempting to make Assam a part of Bangladesh while citing an event in which Congress Seva Dal workers purportedly performed Bangladesh’s national Anthem at a meeting in Sribhumi District. The government has launched a probe into the situation. Sarma further stated that issues such as 'love jihad' and land encroachment remain key worries for the state. "These will remain our priority along with Zubeen's case," said the official.
