GUWAHATI: The rate of submission of charge sheets by the Assam Police is 66.7 percent at the end of 2024 compared to 39.4 percent in 2021. This development has subsequently led to the increase in the conviction rates and decrease in the workload of investigating officers.

The monthly state crime conference of the Assam Police for January 2025 was held at the headquarters conference hall.

“We have made substantial progress in 2024. Charge sheet filing percentage has gone up to 66.7 percent in 2024 from 39.4 percent in 2021, and the conviction rate to 23 percent in 2024 from 6.1 percent in 2021. The crime rate per lakh population has fallen to 139 in 2024 from 379 in 2021. The biggest success has been in disposing of over 5.25 lakh cases in last few years bringing the case load on every investigation officer down from 69 in 2021 to just 6.2 in 2024,” DGP GP Singh said on his social media handle.

He further said, “In the meeting, we have set the target of 75 percent charge sheets and at least a 30 percent conviction rate for 2025.”
