Ranoj Pegu Meets Adivasi Leaders; Holds Talks on ST Status, Peace Accord

They also reviewed the Group of Ministers’ report on the classification of six tribal communities, signalling ongoing dialogue on long-pending recognition issues

Guwahati: Assam Cabinet Minister for Higher Education, School Education and Tribal Affairs, Ranoj Pegu met representatives of the All Adivasi Leading Organisations of Assam and signatories of the Adivasi Peace Accord at Janata Bhawan on December 24.

Discussions were held for the organizations’ demand for ST (Plains) classification and clear identification of 36 Adivasi communities under the 2022 Tripartite Adivasi Peace Accord.

During the meeting, they also reviewed the Group of Ministers’ report on the classification of six tribal communities, signalling ongoing dialogue on long-pending recognition issues. The Adivasi representatives informed that a field-based statistical report on the current status of all 36 communities will soon be submitted, to provide data-backed support for their ST claims and future policy decisions.

In a post on ‘X’, Ranoj Pegu said, “Met representatives of the 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐀𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐬𝐢 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐦 and 𝐀𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐬𝐢 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 at Janata Bhawan on their request for ST (Plains) classification and clarity in identifying the 36 Adivasi communities under the Tripartite Adivasi Peace Accord, 2022. The GoM report on the classification of six tribal communities was also discussed. The representatives informed that a field-based statistical report on the current status of all 36 communities will be submitted soon.”

On the same day, Ranoj Pegu also chaired a meeting between the Education Department and the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council at Janata Bhawan. Pending village notifications, administrative and staffing requirements, fund allocation for development, inclusion of Bodo villages from different districts under BKWAC, and infrastructure and education-related matters, were among other issues that were discussed in the meeting.

Key issues discussed included pending village notifications, administrative and staffing requirements, fund allocation for development, inclusion of Bodo villages from different districts under BKWAC, and infrastructure and education-related matters, among others. The demands will be reviewed and necessary steps will be taken as per government norms and procedures,” Ranoj Pegu stated in ‘X’.
