Guwahati: Amid the ongoing pandemic scenario, travel has been put on hold for much of the world this summer. As a result, some are looking for other ways to satiate their wanderlust.

Island jelly cakes made to look like tropical island scenes seem to fit this bill.

This cake has became popular among professional and amateur bakers alike.

Dessert craze comes and goes, but not all of them are noteworthy like this gorgeous Jell-O cakes that look like exotic tropical islands.

They are pretty challenging and time-consuming to make, but the stunning end result is worth the time.

The ocean is made of gelatin while the islands are made of cake. This cake also requires a lot of creativity.

Most jelly island cakes are made with blue-dyed gelatin for the ocean, actual cake for the islands, crumbled cookies or nuts as sand, and chocolate ganache, marzipan, or modeling chocolate for the details, such as shells and corals to like an actual tropical island.

Some of these tropical cakes also include fruits, nuts, and edible paint. Russia-based pastry chef Anna Filotava has been baking island jelly cakes modeled on her previous trips to Thailand, Finland, French Polynesia, and the Caribbean.

In the pictures, the cakes are cylindrical in shape and mirror the look and feel of beachside or an island with intricate details.

The cakes are apparently inspired by people's own vacations to beaches and islands.

New Zealand-based baker Maryam Khan, who owns Cakes by MK, says she was mesmerized by the Jell-O cake trend as soon as she became aware of it. "When I saw pictures of this new 2020 cake trend emerging I was immediately mesmerized by it and had to try it. It's certainly given me more confidence to think outside the box."

If anybody is willing to bake this pretty cake first, you need to bake the cake and then shape it into an island. After that, surround the cake with a ring and plastic sheet to pour the jelly inside it. If you want to add coral and other details, do so before the jelly starts hardening.
