Guwahati: Assam's Ace boxer Lovlina Borgohain has been recommended for the prestigious Arjuna Award by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).
Apart from the Assam pugilist, Simranjit Kaur and Manish Kaushik have also been nominated by the premier boxing body for the prestigious award.

Lovlina, who is one among a new generation of stalwart boxers from Assam, tweeted that "It is an honour to be nominated for this prestigious award."
Meanwhile, the BFI has lauded Borgohain and her fellow boxer Kaur. "Borgohain and Kaur have been two of the most talented young women boxers we have produced in the recent few years and they have proved it with their credentials", it said in a statement.
Borgohain, who has been rubbing shoulders with's the world's very best boxers, secured two bronze medals at the last two World Championships. Borgohain settled with a bronze medal in the AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships at Ulan-Ude after she faced a defeat at the hand of China's Yang Liu in the semifinal clash.
Lovlina will next be seen in action at the upcoming Tokyo Olympic games which have been deferred till 2021 owing to the nationwide outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. In March 2020, Borgohain secured the Olympic berth in the 69 kg with a 5-0 win over Maftunakhon Melieva of Uzbekistan in the 2020 Asia & Oceania Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament.
With this, the 22-year-old from Golaghat has become the first-ever sportswoman from Assam to qualify for the Olympics.[2] She lost to the 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships silver-medallist Gu Hong of China in a unanimous 5-0 verdict and signed off with a Bronze medal at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers.
