GUWAHATI: A district-level capacity-building training for master volunteers under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was organized by the office of the District Social Welfare Officer, Kamrup Metropolitan District, in Guwahati. The training, held on Tuesday at the Chachal Shatdal Shakha Sahitya Sabha Hall, aimed to empower Master Volunteers in their role to combat substance abuse.
Santosh Kutum, District Social Welfare Officer, welcomed the dignitaries and participants, emphasizing the importance of master volunteers in the implementation of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Mira Das Boro, Joint Director, Directorate of Social Justice and Empowerment, Assam, graced the occasion and delivered a speech highlighting the crucial role of Master Volunteers.
The training programme featured sessions by experts, including Dr. Hrishikesh Sarmah, who spoke on the overview of substance abuse and disorder. Anamriya Baruah, Coordinator, State Level Coordinating Agency (SLCA), Drugs Prevention of Assam and Meghalaya, discussed the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and the role and responsibilities of Master Volunteers.
A total of 85 Master Volunteers from various areas of Kamrup Metropolitan District, including NYK volunteers, SHG members, and officials from drug rehabilitation centres, attended the training. The participants will now take the initiative to conduct awareness programmes at the community level. The training concluded with an oath-taking ceremony, making a significant step towards combating substance abuse in the region.
