Assam: 52 candidates file nomination papers for RHAC polls in Kamrup district

A total of 445,586 voters across 36 council constituencies will decide the future leadership of RHAC, with 190,736 voters in Kamrup district.

PALASBARI: With the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) elections set for April 2, political parties have intensified their preparations. A total of 445,586 voters across 36 council constituencies will decide the future leadership of RHAC, with 190,736 voters in Kamrup district.

Key political players, including Congress, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Rabha Hasong Jautho Moncho (RHJM), have begun mobilizing their campaigns in anticipation of the polls.

A total of 52 candidates have filed their nominations for 16 council constituencies in Kamrup district.

It may be stated here that on Saturday, on the last day for filing nominations for the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) elections, BJP candidate for Bamunigaon constituency Ajit Rabha filed his nomination papers with thousands of supporters in the presence of PHED Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah. The candidate filed his nomination papers at Maa Chandika Development Zone Office on Saturday. Minister Baruah expressed hope of winning with huge votes. He also said that the Congress is not a factor in any way.

On the other hand, the nomination papers were handed over by Congress candidate for 31 No. Govardhan constituency Ura Rabha at Chhaygaon Revenue Circle Office on Saturday. Ura Rabha is contesting against Jyotish Chandra Rabha of the NDA alliance party in the constituency, where the congress candidate hopes to win the constituency easily.

The list of valid candidates will be announced on March 17 after the examination of nomination papers. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations is March 19 at 3pm and the list of candidates will be announced on the same day.

Polling is scheduled for April 2 from 7am to 3pm and if for any reason re-polling is required, re-polling will be held on April 3 from 7am to 3pm. Counting of votes will start at 8 am on April 4 and the results will be announced on the same day.
