GUWAHATI: The Department of Agriculture, Assam, organized a one-day state-level refresher training programme on “Digital Crop Survey & Farmers’ Registry” here today.
Director of Agriculture, Bhaskar Pegu, while addressing the trainees, stated that the primary objective of this initiative is to train the officials of various levels of both the Revenue and Agriculture Departments on the the Digital Crop Survey (DCS) and Farmers’ Registry, enabling them to effectively implement these systems. He emphasised that the introduction of digital methods in the agricultural sector of Assam aims to ensure accurate data collection, proper identification of farmers, and the development of modern agricultural management systems.
The Director of Agriculture urged the participating officials to focus primarily on the correct implementation of the digital survey by securing correct information about farmers. He expressed his confidence that the Assam government’s initiative to digitise the agricultural sector would contribute to the growth of farmers and the long-term development of agriculture in the state.
It is noteworthy that starting February 1, 2025, the Digital Crop Survey (DCS) for the Rabi crop season 2024-25 will be launched across various districts of the state. The primary objectives of this survey are to include farmer identity registration, issuance of a unique ‘ID’ number for each farmer, collection of land records, and ensuring government assistance benefits for farmers.
In today’s training programme, subject matter experts from the department provided detailed insights into data collection through digital surveys, policy formulation for the agricultural sector, and other relevant topics.
With the integration of digital technology into Assam’s agriculture sector, the Government of Assam aims to open new avenues of progress in the farming sector.
