Assam: Basanti Puja inaugurated in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Tinsukia Swamiji Eisharambhaji Maharaj today inaugurated the Basanti Puja at Bharat Sevashram Sangha Hindu Milan Mandir in Dibrugarh. Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation Mayor Dr Saikat Patra and Gopal Sharma, retired DHSK commerce college professor, were present during the inauguration programme. 

The Basanti Puj|a will be celebrated for three days in the mandir. Every year, Dibrugarh Hindu Milan Mandir organizes the Basanti Puja, which is considered to be the original Durga Puja initiated by King Surath before the autumn Durga Puja became more popular in Bengal. Its rituals are similar to Durga Puja’s and it falls typically during the Bengali month of Chaitra and coincides with the last four days of the Ram Navami period.
