Assam: Beekeeping workshop organized in Tezpur to Promote Pollination, Honey Production, and Rural Employment

TEZPUR: A one-day beekeeping workshop was held in Tezpur under the Government of India’s Honey Bee Keeping Mission to Promote Pollination, Honey Production, and Rural Employment.

A day-long workshop was organized under the directives of Frontier Headquarters, Tezpur, SSB. The objective of this workshop was to promote natural pollination, encourage honey production, and create self-employment opportunities in rural and border areas. The workshop was conducted by beekeeping expert Gangaram Dahal from Tezpur University.

Gangaram Dahal provided extensive theoretical and practical training to 26 trainees, covering a wide range of essential topics. The trainees were educated on modern beekeeping techniques, including hive maintenance and management understanding the structure and upkeep of beehives for optimal honey production. The topics included: Bee care and colony health: Learning about the behaviour of bees, their life cycle, and ways to protect them from environmental threats.

Honey extraction and production: Step-by-step guidance on safely and efficiently extracting honey while maintaining its purity. Disease prevention and management: Identifying and controlling common bee diseases to ensure a healthy bee population. Marketing and commercial aspects: Insights into how honey and other bee-related products can be marketed effectively for economic benefits.

During the interactive practical session, trainees were given the opportunity to closely inspect active beehives, observe the behaviour of bees, and understand the crucial steps involved in honey extraction. This hands-on experience allowed them to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world conditions, enhancing their confidence in beekeeping practices.

On this occasion, Commandant Rajesh Kumar Gupta addressed the trainees and highlighted the significance of beekeeping in strengthening the rural economy. He emphasized that honey bee farming not only supports agricultural sustainability by promoting natural pollination but also provides a lucrative livelihood opportunity for farmers, entrepreneurs, and rural communities.

Recognizing the impact of the initiative, he encouraged the trainees to utilize their newly acquired skills effectively and contribute to the growth of beekeeping as an industry. He further expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to beekeeping expert Gangaram Dahal for his dedicated efforts in successfully conducting the workshop, ensuring that trainees received quality education and practical exposure in the field of beekeeping.
