KOKRAJHAR: In a landmark initiative of the Government of BTR, CEM of BTC Pramod Boro inaugurated the foundation stone of the construction of Birsa Munda Cultural Complex at South Karigaon in Kokrajhar today in the presence of EMs Wilson Hasda, Ranjit Basumatary, Gautam Das, Nominated Member Madhav Chandra Chetri, UPPL General Secretary Raju Kr Narzary, Chairperson of Kokrajhar Municipal Board Pratibha Brahma, Chairman of Adivasi Welfare Development Council (AWDC) Durga Hasda, and leaders of Kurukh Sahitya Sabha ASSAA and Adivasi Seva Samity.
In his speech, EM Gautam Das said that the Government of BTR, led by Pramod Boro, has been giving due importance to the development of all and working with collective opinion and decision. He said that the Cultural Complex and Bhavans were being built for different communities for the development of culture, socio-economy, and heritage. He further said that the construction of Birsa Munda Cultural Complex at Karigaon in Kokrajhar was an example of translating the BTR Community Vision Documents launched last December.
Vice-Chairman of Adivasi Welfare Development Council (AWDC) Subhash Tirky said that there had been violence and killings in the region in the past but today peace has returned. The peace should not be only in the news media but also among the people of the region, he said, adding that the publication of the BTR Community Vision Documents is a clear reflection of bringing peace among all sections of the society. He also said that the foundation stone of Birsa Munda Cultural Complex was not a demand from the community but the Government of BTR in 2020 had come forward for this Cultural Complex and this is becoming a reality now. He also said that there was no cultural complex in the name of Adivasi National Hero Birsa Munda other than the Bhawan earlier.
In his speech, the CEM of BTC Pramod Boro said that the construction of Birsa Munda Cultural Complex will start from tomorrow for the development of Adivasi culture and heritage. There have been only a few great leaders of the Adivasi communities in India and Birsa Munda is the highest figure among them in India and the Government of India has been giving due recognition of his contributions for the downtrodden Adivasi people. He said that the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi had a true heart for the Adivasis and honoured the Adivasis, giving the top constitutional post of President of India to Draupadi Murmu and realized the popular theme, ‘Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas.’ He said that there had been ethnic clashes between the Bodos and Adivasis due to misunderstandings which made both the communities far backward for long.
“We have laid the foundation stones of Gorkha Bhawan and Cultural Complex, Chilarai Bhawan, and Bhupen Hazarika Bhawan at a cost of Rs 20 crore, Birsa Munda Cultural Complex at a cost of Rs 9.50 crore, statue of Birsa Munda in Gossaigaon, Swami Bibeka Nanda Bhawan at a cost of Rs 10 crore, etc.,” he said, adding that the Government of BTR will work for the protection of cultural, language, literature and heritage of every community and thus the BTR Community Vision Document was prepared after consulting with all communities. He also said that the student organizations used to stage protest demonstrations and movements for aspirations of the communities but the Government of BTR has started to go to the community to collect their grievances and shortcomings with an inclusive approach. He also said that for land patta, the Council Government had taken up land pattas to bona-fide and eligible people through online, offline, and Land Melas. He further called upon all to take collective responsibility to protect reserve forests and ecology to overcome global warming.
Boro said that the Government of BTR had two national parks, Raimana National Park and Sikhna Jwhwlao National Park in Kokrajhar to protect biodiversity, wild animals, and carried out surveys on water level through the experts of University. They have also created Bodoland Green Brigade to work under Bodoland Green Mission to recover the green cover of the region.
