BOKAKHAT: The voluntary organization, ‘GRASS,’ of Bokakhat has announced the introduction of a special new award as part of its journey, which will be presented to a distinguished environmental activist of Assam on June 5. This award, named the ‘Mohi Chandra Miri Memorial GRASS Environmental Protection Award’, will be awarded based on the selection made by a designated jury board.
The idea behind this award is to honour the memory of Mohi Chandra Miri, who was closely associated with the history of conservation at Kaziranga National Park. The present generation is largely unfamiliar with Mohi Chandra Miri. He had made efforts to introduce the famous one-horned rhinoceros of Kaziranga to the world. However, due to the lack of technological advancements and proper publicity at the time, the matter did not receive much prominence. When discussing the history of Kaziranga, it is essential to recognize the contributions of Mohi Chandra Miri.
With the aim of paying tribute to this skilled forest officer of his time and introducing him to the present generation, GRASS has decided to present this award, as stated in a public release by the organization’s President Ankur Barthakur and Secretary Indreswar Bora. The name of the award recipient will be announced soon, according to the statement.
