Assam: SDP Girls High School to Celebrate Maharajat Jayanti in Sivasagar

Sachidhar Phukan Girls High School in Sivasagar, established in 1944, celebrates 78 years of empowering women through education.

GAURISAGAR: Sachidhar Phukan (SDP) Girls High School, a leading women’s educational institution in greater Charing area in Sivasagar district, established in 1944, completed its 78 years of existence. On the eve of its glorious diamond jubilee year, the school fraternity as well as the local people, guardians, and well wishers organized the yearlong Maharajat Jayanti which kicked off on June 8, 2024. The closing ceremony of the Maharajat Jayanti of the school will be held on May 25, 26, and 27 with a three-day programme.

The Maharajat Jayanti Celebration Committee held a press conference at the school on Wednesday where they briefed the programme. According to the schedule, the first day’s programme will be marked by hoisting of school flag, followed by smriti tarpan to be performed by Pratap Chandra Nath, retired headmaster of the school. The statue of Sachidhar Phukan installed at the school campus will be unveiled by Dr Prakash Katoky, former principal of Sibsagar College. Thereafter, the new building of Hemo Kanta Duarah and Nirmala Duarah Memorial Girls Common Room will be inaugurated by Dr Mukul Hazarika, former principal, Balya Bhawan, Jorhat. The school boundary wall constructed by the school teachers’ fund will be inaugurated by Girindra Kumar Gogoi, Principal, DC Gogoi, Jakaichuk HS School, Charing.

Later, the doors of the exhibition and book fair will be inaugurated by Jitu Borah, ADC, Dibrugarh. Thereafter, the alumni meet will be held. The event will be inaugurated by Runa Neog, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Assam Police HQ, Guwahati, who is also an alumna of the school. The alumni meet will be conducted by Dr Niharika Duwarah, Principal of Amguri college. In the alumni meet, the souvenir published on this occasion will be unveiled by Jogesh Kishore Phukan, President, Sivasagar Zilla Xahitya Xabha. At night, a cultural function will be held, to be inaugurated by Dr Bidyananda Borkakati, Principal, SMD College, Charing.

On the second day, in the morning session, a cultural procession will be taken out throughout the locality and it will be flagged off by Topon Kumar Gogoi, former MP and Chairman Assam Industrial Development Corporation. Thereafter, a seminar on the role of women’s power in building a progressive women’s society will be held. The seminar will be inaugurated by Dr Surajjyoti Gogoi, District Project Director, Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM),Sivasagar. The seminar will be conducted by Dr Rita Bora, Associate Professor, Department of Assamese, Sivasagar University. Dr Jyotirekha Hazarika, former professor and head, Assamese Department, JB College, Jorhat, Dr Rimjhim Bora, Professor, Head of Economics Department, Gargaon College, and Dr Barnali Bhuyan, Assistant Professor, SMD College, Charing, will grace the event as invited speakers.
