Tezpur: The Divisional Forest Officer of the Western Assam Wildlife Division, who also serves as the Field Director of Nameri Tiger Reserve, has announced that trekking activities in the Core Zone of Nameri National Park and Tiger Reserve will be temporarily suspended starting from May 27 until further notice. The decision comes in accordance with the directive issued by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.

This annual closure, tentatively scheduled to remain in effect until October 2025, is a standard conservation measure implemented during the monsoon season. It is aimed at protecting the fragile forest ecosystem and ensuring minimal human interference during a time when animal movement and breeding activities are at their peak. The core zone of Nameri, being ecologically sensitive and home to endangered species including the tiger, requires strict protection, particularly during this critical season. The monsoon months also bring challenging terrain and unpredictable weather, posing safety risks to trekkers, which further justifies the seasonal restriction. The Forest Department has urged all tour operators, local guides, and nature enthusiasts to comply with the directive and cooperate with the park authorities. Visitors are encouraged to explore alternative eco-tourism options available in the buffer zones or designated safe areas that remain open to the public.
