Assam: Two Abducted Cachar Drivers in Manipur Rescued

Silchar: In a joint operation with its Manipur counterpart as well as with the Assam Rifles, the Cachar police had rescued two drivers who were abducted on.January 6.

Two Cachar based drivers Riazul Haque Laskar and Nasir Uddin were reportedly traceless after unloading the consignments they had carried to Manipur's Tamelong district. Finally after 13 days, they were rescued following the joint operation by the security forces in the dense forest near Assam Manipur border on Saturday midnight.

The Cachar SP Numol Mahatta said, both the drivers were abducted by some miscreants from a village named Kaiphundal in Tamenglong district. Based on secret information, the joint team cordoned the forest and the kidnappers sensing police operation fled away. Two drivers were rescued unharmed. One of the abducted drivers said, they were kidnapped by a group of five armed militants who demanded ransom. Mahatta said, no ransom had been paid.
