MANGALDAI: Jayanta Kumar Das, a distinguished septuagenarian journalist, wildlife, and environmental activist from the Udalguri district, has been chosen for the 2024 edition of the coveted “Paribesh Mitra” (Friend of Environment) award, along with four other environmental activists from the state.
The Science, Technology, and Climate Change department of the Assam government, with the coordination of the Assam Science, Technology, and Environment Council, has been awarding this prestigious award in recognition and honour to the prominent individuals working on the conservation of wildlife and nature and the environment every year.
Journalist Jayanta Kumar Das, based at Kalaigaon in the Udalguri district, has been rendering his sincere service in the conservation of wildlife, nature, and the environment. He is also actively involved with creating awareness on eradicating superstitious beliefs practised in the remote and rural areas. He is the eldest son of late Pani Ram Das, an eminent freedom fighter and the first journalist of Darrang.
The other four environment and nature activists are, former Principal of Cotton College Dr. Anil Kumar Goswami, former Professor of Environmental Science department of Guwahati University Dr. Dulal Chandra Goswami, and others.
