JORHAT: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today went hammer and tongs at Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia and Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi.
Addressing the first Panchayat election meeting at Rajabari Khel Pathar, Teok now under Mariani LAC in Jorhat district today, Dr Sarma, taking a dig at Debabrata Saikia’s recent remark where had said that he too wore lungi, said that those who wore lungis should be in Bangladesh.
Attacking Gaurav Gogoi, the CM said that Gogoi was not coming to Assam during the Bohag Bihu festival in fear of having to give donations. He further said that by September, he would furnish proof that Gogoi had gone to Pakistan for 15 days without letting anyone know.
Speaking about the Orunodoi scheme, the CM said that the scheme for women would be expanded by 4000 women each in the four legislative assembly constituencies of Teok, Mariani, Titabar, and Jorhat that fell under Jorhat district. He further said that by June, the Self Help Groups would be given Rs 10,000 each.
The CM further announced that boys would be included in the Nijut Moina scheme from degree onwards. At present only girls get Rs 1,000 to 2,500 as financial assistance from school level, in order to stop child marriage. Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, former Jorhat MP Topan Gogoi, Jorhat MLA Jitendra Nath Goswami, Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, and BJP Jorhat district President Shantanu Pujari were present in the meeting.
