DIGBOI: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Tinsukia, in collaboration with WE FOR YOU, organized a plantation drive under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ recently here at Nazirating Tamuli ME School close to the bank of Dibru River known for being a captivating tourist destination. The event, marked by a massive local participation, aimed to create environmental awareness among the community, sensitising the younger generations to understand that human existence on the blue planet is determined by the flora and green environment which we shape today.
Lakyahira Gogoi, Assistant Registrar of Cooperatives, Babul Das, ABM Apex Bank, Barun Biswas, District Development Manager (DDM), NABARD, and forest officials under Digboi division participated in the programme planting fruit-bearing saplings and native trees along with the students.
Addressing the gathering, Lakyahira Gogoi emphasized the vital role of cooperatives and grassroots engagement in environmental sustainability. She urged the youth and students to take the lead in planting and protecting trees as a way of giving back to nature. Babul Das acknowledged the role of NABARD and cooperative institutions in supporting eco-friendly development and called for more such joint efforts involving the community. While outlining the upcoming initiatives under the observance of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, Biswas, the DDM, also highlighted NABARD’s continued efforts to promote natural and organic farming, micro-credit, women SHGs, JLGs, and cooperative-driven rural development programmes.
Forest officials from the Nazirating Beat Office also underlined the importance of preserving local biodiversity and praised the collaboration between NABARD and WE FOR YOU for mobilizing the younger generations in a meaningful way.
