TEZPUR: In response to the rising number of cancer cases worldwide, the Marwari Yuva Manch (MYM) Tezpur Jagriti Branch, in collaboration with Tezpur Cancer Centre, organized a cancer screening camp at Gandhi Ashram School, Jahajghat, Tezpur. The camp focused on screening for oral, breast, and cervical cancers.

Dr Sanjeev K Gupta, Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Clinical Oncology at Tezpur Cancer Centre, graced the event as chief guest. He delivered an informative speech on cancer awareness, discussing risk factors, the current cancer scenario in Assam and the Northeast, the importance of early screening, the cervical cancer vaccine, and the advanced facilities available at Tezpur Cancer Centre. The camp also featured an inspiring address by Krishna Kant Rai, Headmaster of Gandhi Ashram School, who shared stories of cancer patients to motivate attendees. Oral cancer screenings were conducted by Dr Ankita Baruah, while breast and cervical cancer screenings were handled by trained oncology staff, Babita and Sibani, under the supervision of Dr Sanjeev Gupta and district health camp coordinator Dipti Moni Das.

Around 43 screenings were carried out, including 26 for oral cancer, 15 for breast cancer, and 2 for cervical cancer. Participants received medical advice based on their results. Chairperson of the programme Amita Gupta encouraged attendees to prioritize cancer screening over fear of the disease.
