KOKRAJHAR: Finalizing his decision to join the UPPL tomorrow in Chirang district, former Deputy Chief of BTC and vice president of the BPF Kampa Borgoyari today disclosed before the mediapersons that there were lack of collective decision, collective opinion, collective thinking, and shared ideas in the BPF which is the biggest factor for the possible fall of the party.

In a press briefing at his residence today morning, Borgoyari said that he had decided to join the UPPL along with his co-workers and supporters at the BPF at a joining programme scheduled to be held at Thaikajhora in Chirang district on Saturday. He said that the decision to join the UPPL was his personal choice to work for peace and progress of the people of the region. Borgoyari further said that most of the presidents and secretaries of eleven primary committees of the BPF under 14-Chirang Duar constituency with over 400 supporters will join UPPL tomorrow at Thaikajhora field in Chirang district.

The vice president of the BPF said that there had been lack of collective thinking and collective decision in the BPF but in his observation, the UPPL is more democratic and has been working with collective decision and collective opinion and are more inclusive and people get space to share their ideas and opinion in a free manner.

Borgoyari said, "There is a need for political unification for the political stability in the region. The political unification will bring permanent peace and stability, and more progress for people in the region." He added that he was always vocal for unification of BPF and UPPL to go ahead to work for development without external pressure. He said that the differences between the BPF and UPPL had a bad impact in the social system where villagers avoided attending social ceremonies and traditional festivals on party lines between each other and that affected the social harmony and feelings of brotherhood. The disharmony in the society for the cause of political division should be discouraged, he said, adding that the difference of ideology of political leaders should not affect the social cohesion. He also said that according to his observation, the working environment in the UPPL was better than the BPF and the former is far more convenient to move with more inclusiveness. He hoped that he would be able to work for peace and progress of the region under the UPPL as desired by the people.

When asked about the circumstances that made him quit the BPF, Borgoyari said that he tendered his resignation from the party on his personal ground and lack of working environment in the party. He said that he worked for the BPF from the beginning as a responsible leader in the position of spokesperson and vice-president besides being a key role player in the BTC Accord in 2003. He also said that he had deep respect for the President of the BPF Hagrama Mohilary and worked together with him from the time of Volunteers' Force of the ABSU and the BLT Movement for Bodoland state till the time of his resignation. He also said that before deserting the BPF, he discussed with many intellectuals and thinkers on what he should do for political stability, peace and progress of the region and according to their wish, he decided to join the UPPL.

It may be mentioned that Kampa Borgoyari was one of the well-known figures of the Bodo Movement since the ABSU mass movement. He was the spokesman of the then BLT and played a crucial role in the BTC Accord. He subsequently became EM of interim BTC and was elected to the council from 14-Chirang Duar for three consecutive terms. He became Deputy Chief of BTC after Chandan Brahma was elected to Assam Assembly in 2006 and became a Cabinet Minister. Till December 2020, Borgoyari was the Deputy Chief of BTC and took the responsibility of the Education and Forest Department along with other subjects. His exit from the BPF is likely to be a major setback for the BPF as the party has lost a dynamic and efficient leader.
