GUWAHATI: Gauhati Town Club secured their first victory in the 70th Bordoloi Trophy, defeating SAISC 2-0 in a Group ‘B’ match of Kamup Metro Leg at the SAI Complex in the city on Friday. Both goals were scored in the first half.
Gauhati Town Club dominated for most of the match, except for the final ten minutes, which saw SAISC in control. Overall, Gauhati Town Club looked the better side, excelling in all areas of the game. Goalkeeper Akash Swargiyary played a crucial role, making two terrific saves in the last ten minutes to deny SAISC a goal.
Gauhati Town Club took charge from the start and launched continuous attacks on the opposition’s goal. In the 19th minute, they earned a penalty after Amar Bahadur Bhujel was fouled inside the box by an SAISC defender. Lucky Imran confidently converted the spot kick to give his team the lead.
They doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute when Bhujel skillfully intercepted a long pass and headed the ball into the net, despite the opponent’s goalkeeper rushing forward in an attempt to block him.
Gauhati Town Club continued their attacking style in the second half and came close to scoring on three occasions. One shot hit the post, another struck the crossbar, and a third was saved brilliantly by SAISC’s substitute goalkeeper, Ajibar Ali. Ali had replaced first-choice keeper Rohan Prasad, who left the field in the second half due to injury.
SAISC mounted immense pressure in the final ten minutes, but Gauhati Town Club’s goalkeeper Akash Swargiyary stood firm, making crucial saves to ensure his team kept a clean sheet.
