Abhijit Hazarika is 51 years old and is from Rangapara, Assam. His father was Kiren Hazarika. He is blessed with three children, a daughter and two sons. Fought Assam Assembly Elections twice – 2006 & 2016. Fighting Assam Assembly Elections for the 3rd time.
His completed his post graduation from Gauhati University in 1933.
In the 2016 Assam Assembly elections, Abhijit Hazarika contested the Rangapara seat as an Independent and lost to BJP's Pallab Lochan Das. He won the Assam Assembly elections 2006 in a BJP ticket with 31,664 votes. He defeated Bhimananda Tanti of Congress (INC) who got 31,065 votes.
Hazarika joined AGP in 2015 after resigning from BJP. He then joined the Congress in 2018 from AGP. Hazarika has been leading protests against price rise and was vocal about the scam in recruitment of sub-inspectors in Assam Police.
