Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inspected the ongoing construction work of the Dighalipukhuri-Noonmati flyover on September 8 midnight in Guwahati.

The Industrial and Investment Policy of Assam (IIPA) introduced by the Assam government in 2019 is starting to show results as around Rs 21,000 crore worth of investments have been assured till now.
Official sources said that due to this policy, so far 25 MoUs worth Rs 13,917 crore have been signed and another Rs 7,413 crore of investments are in the pipeline.
“We rolled out the IIPA policy of 2019 to offer incentives to large-scale investors to set up their bases here and create employment avenues for our growth," CM Sarma said.

The Assam Legislative Assembly has passed a historic order by changing its rules to discard the age-old practice of adjourning sessions on Fridays to offer Namaz. This tradition had been kept alive since 1946.
In a move reflecting the secular ethos of the Indian Constitution, Speaker Biswajit Daimary proposed an end to this tradition. Daimary said that the Assembly should operate on Fridays without religious interruptions, aligning with the principle of equality and non-discrimination.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accused the chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) Mahbubul Hoque of fraudulently taking an OBC certificate from the Karimganj district.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said that though the number of road accidents in the state has increased compared to last year, fatalities have dropped due to timely medical intervention. He compared the road accident data of 2023 and 2024 and appealed to all to drive safely.
In January 2023, the state recorded a total of 654 accidents, while 819 accidents were reported in the corresponding period this year. In February 2023 and 2024, the road accidents reported in Assam were 582 and 822, respectively, an increase of more than 41 percent.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said peace is imperative in the state, cautioning that continuing violence would destroy the future of the youths of the state.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state had around 20 lakh registered unemployed people, and a section of them are aspiring government job seekers. He said that the government is contemplating doing something tangible for them in this regard.
On tourism, the Chief Minister said, “We have prospects in the tourism sector. The footfall of domestic and foreign tourists is increasing fast. We have taken the decision to make 5,000 homestays in the state for tourists.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the demography in the state has come to such a point that Hindus fleeing Muslim-dominated areas is a reality now, leading to a decline in the Hindu population in such areas.
"The demographic pattern is changing very fast in lower Assam, where a human disaster is in the making. There were some purely Hindu villages in lower Assam. Now those villages are bereft of a Hindu population," the Assam CM said.
“Apart from birth rates and death rates, another problem that aggravates the situation is Hindus deserting their villages in lower and central Assam," he added.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed the state assembly that the government would consider the implementation of a 10 percent EWS (Economically Weaker Section) quota in state government jobs only after the creation of 10 percent additional posts.
MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal raised the issue and demanded implementation of the EWS quota in government jobs as it was in accordance with the 103rd amendment of the Constitution of India.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that former Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren will join the BJP on August 30 in Ranchi.
He posted a picture of Soren meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. Sarma, who is the BJP's co-incharge for the Jharkhand assembly polls, was also part of the meeting.
A Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader, Soren had accused its leadership of insulting him and announced that he would soon decide on his next political course.

"Assam is safe only if the rights of its indigenous people are safeguarded. Any attempt to suppress them through intimidation will lead to adverse consequences," he warned.

Amidst a massive backlash from the public due to rape incidents reported in the past few days, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed on Sunday that more than 40,000 rape cases have been reported in the state since 2001, adding that the occurrences have decreased significantly since 2020.
As per the Assam CM, over 3,000 rape cases have been registered every year during the first term of the BJP-led government from 2016 till 2021.
Of these, the highest numbers were recorded in 2019 when 3,546 cases were registered, but it has come down drastically since then, he claimed.
According to the data available with Sarma, 1,657 cases were recorded in 2020, 1,733 in the year 2021, 1,113 cases in the year 2022, 989 in the year 2023, and 580 cases have been reported until July 2024.
The Assam Cabinet approved a slew of important bills, including bills concerning the protection of the lands in Barpeta, Batadrava, and Majuli; the creation of micro tribal belts and blocks; the registration of Muslim marriages, etc.
Under this bill, the iconic structures at Batatdrava and Barpeta Xatra will be protected areas with a radius of five km.
Other people will not be allowed to purchase land in these two areas, barring those who have been living in these areas for three consecutive generations.
Moreover, the entire Majuli district will be a protected area with restrictions on the sale of land.
The Assam Cabinet has approved a new bill barring qazis or clerics from registering marriages of Muslims. The Assam Compulsory Registration of Marriage And Divorce Bill also prohibits registration of child marriages.
As per the bill, the government will oversee the registration of Muslim marriages instead of a Qazi.
The bill, which nullifies certain provisions of Muslim personal laws, will be tabled during the Monsoon session of the Assam Assembly on Friday.
While addressing the media, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that discussions are going on to consider the prospect of excluding USTM students from appearing in exams for Assam government jobs.
The Assam CM cited that the students of USTM have different state's certificate due to its geographical location. He complained that the students of Gauhati University and Dibrugarh University suffer from it.
He has directed the legal department to conduct an additional exam for those USTM students seeking jobs and medical in Assam.
CM Sarma on Monday visited the Sonapur Government Old Age Home, run by Monalisa Society under the department of social justice and empowerment of the state govt, and presented Aadhaar, ration, Ayushman and Orunodoi cards to the residents.
During the visit, the residents tied rakhi to CM Sarma to mark the Raksha Bandhan celebration.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister announced that the state government would issue Aadhaar, Ration, Ayushman, and Orunodoi cards to all the residents of old age homes in Assam who lacked them.

"This morning at 1:30 AM, Bangladeshi citizens identified as Motiur Seikh, Mushiar Mullah, Tania Mullah, and Rita Mullah attempted to enter India through the Karimganj sector of the India-Bangladesh border. The Chief Minister of Assam today mentioned in an announcement that the state government must delegate administrative powers at the district level. An MoU is undersigned with an institute to determine the district-level GDP. An awareness campaign must be created for GDP in the state.

New Adhar Centre from 25th july 2025
3.3 crore applicants produced documents during NRC draft as data from 31st December 2017. The total number of people were 26,57,784 who couldn't produce the documents for their biometrics were frozen during the updated process.
Thus aiming the loss Assam Government opened a new Adhar centre. The centre is to aid the residents who were stuck for NRC detailing. Himanta Biswa Sarma was often criticized for his voice against the Muslim population particularly those of immigrant origin. He has also discouraged families abandoning from government jobs with more than two children and contesting local elections among such communities. His administration has focused on reducing poverty and preventing illegal land encroachments through such policies. However Sharma has repealed the Assam Muslim Marriages and Divorces Registration Act. to eradicate child marriages and stop the potential of unregistered marriage.
