This has come at a time when the city is said to be entering a "critical phase." Biswa Sarma said that in preparation for this, the state health department has set up new modes of testing such as the COVID-19 ag test, which will reveal the status of the nasal swab samples within an hour. At the same time, plasma therapy mode of treatment is also being readied, wherein a plasma bank will be set up in the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Sarma yesterday said that the "moderate level symptomatic" cases have finally been detected in Guwahati, adding that this situation necessitates the testing and treating abilities of the people. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, assessing the situation, has urged the administration to conduct 10,000 tests each day within the city premises.
Meanwhile, India's coronavirus tally has crossed the six lakh-mark after more than 19,000 new infections and 434 deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. More than 3.5 lakh patients have recovered from the viral disease so far.
