Guwahati: Amid the toned down Durga Puja celebrations this year, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took to Twitter to wish everyone on the auspicious occasion of Maha Saptami today.
'' Heartiest Durga Puja greetings to everyone. May Maa Durga's blessings keep us healthy, safe, and bring positivity, joy & prosperity to all.''
Earlier, through a video message, Sonowal also urged people of the state to maintain the COVID-19 protocols and stay safe and healthy during the festivities.
State Health and Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also extended his greetings on the auspicious occasion of Navratri. Tweeting a 'sholka' of Goddess Kaaltari, the seventh form of Devi Durga who is worshipped during Chaitra Navrati, Sarma wished for everyone's wellbeing and safety.
Maa Durga defeated the evil buffalo demon on Vijaya Dashami, the tenth and the last day of Durga Puja.
This time Durga Puja celebrations have been minus all the high spirits and scale that is synonymous with Durga Puja. Further dampening the Puja mood at least for the people of Guwahati has been the incessant rains since Thursday night and through Friday morning.
Despite the strict COVID norms and rains, devotees were seen visiting various Puja mandaps to offer prayers. The number were far too less but devotees did arrive at the Kamakhya shrine in Guwahati to offer prayers since early morning.
