Guwahati: A day after the birthday of India's captain cool, MS Dhoni, twitter has once again been flooded with birthday wishes as former Indian team captain and current Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President, Sourav Ganguly, turns 48 today.

Sourav Ganguly, also known as 'Dada', is largely credited with giving the Indian cricket team a belief to win matches overseas. The 'Prince of Calcutta', as he was originally labeled by Geoffrey Boycott, Ganguly was the game-changer for the Indian side, mainly in the early 2000s.

Dada took over the captaincy when the Indian cricket was going through a huge turmoil, both on and off the field. Ganguly, after his appointment as Captain, managed to take the team out from the shadow of infamous match-fixing controversies.

The southpaw was the highest run-scorer across the globe in ODI cricket in the years 1999-2000 aggregating 3,346 runs in just 73 matches at an impressive strike rate of 79.04. He is currently the third-highest run-scorer for India in ODIs, and eighth-highest in the world. Ganguly was the third-fastest player across the globe to reach 10,000 ODI runs. He also holds the record for the highest individual score in CWC for India.

Ganguly is also hailed for his eye for talent. Under his captaincy, Dada had given the opportunity to some of the greatest match-winners like Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In a career spanning 12 long years, Ganguly played 113 Tests and 311 ODIs. Ganguly formally took over as the 39th BCCI President on October 23, 2019.

Meanwhile, the wishes for the Indian cricketing legend have already started pouring in on social media. "Wishing a very Happy Birthday to "Maharaja" aka our dearest Sourav Ganguly. We are always proud of you... Congratulations on all the achievements in your life and may you get all the happiness ahead & forever. Keep shining & take care", renowned actress Rituparna Sengupta wrote on Twitter.

"Happy birthday Dadi! Hope our off-field partnership keeps going strong like our on-field ones. Wish you a blessed year ahead", master blaster Sachin Tendulkar wrote.
