GOLAGHAT: Assam Cabinet Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today while campiagning for Bhartiya Janata Party candidate Ajanta Gogoi from Golaghat, assured the people that a financial support of Rs 3,000 per month will be provided to 30 lakh deserving families, under the Orunodoi scheme.
Earlier, the amount was Rs 830 which the BJP will increase to Rs 3000.
The increase in the financial support was recently mentioned in the BJP manifesto, wherein, it has made ten major commitments to the people of Assam. Some of them includes providing three lakh jobs to the youth; financial support to namgarhs; correct the National Register of Citizens for Assam's protection; Mission Brahmaputra, under which the BJP will build big reservoirs around the river to conserve extra water and save the people from floods; 30 lakh deserving families will be paid financial support of Rs 3,000 per month, up from Rs 830 under the Orunodoi scheme; speed up delimitation process.
Sarma while stressing on the various schemes, implemented by the BJP government, asserted that saffron party has worked for the development of the state. He said what the Congress could not do during its regime in Assam, the BJP did it in just five years.
"Golaghat and its people are so incredibly wonderful @BJP4Assam promises to build a stronger, safer & prosperous #Assam. Your support is vital. Please vote for Smt @AjantaNeog," Sarma tweeted.
He further assured the public that the BJP will continue to work for the development of the people, if voted back to power.
The former PWD minister, Neog who has contested the Assembly election from the Golaghat constituency will be contesting for the upcoming elections on a BJP ticket.
The Congress turncoat Neog has been campaigning extensively in her constituency for the past few days.
Altogether three candidates of different political parties under 95 Golaghat LAC submitted their nomination papers.
Neog has been pitted against Congress candidate Bitopan Saikia, and Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Rina Saikia who also filed their nominations for 95 Golaghat LAC.
It needs to be mentioned here that both the candidates from BJP and Congress have recently switched parties.
Neod was a sitting MLA of the Congress party from Golaghat constituency, who switched to BJP last year cited Congress as a 'visionless party' with a gap between the party leadership and grassroot workers. On the other hand, Bitopan Saikia who was denied a party ticket from the BJP later joined Congress and is contesting as a Congress candidate.
