GUWAHATI: In yet another glorious moment for India at the TokyoOlympics, Indian wrester Ravi Kumar Dahiya stunned the nation with his spectacular performance on Wednesday. The win has now assured his chance at entering the final after emerging victorious over Kazakhstan's Nurislam Sanayev in the semifinal.
Interestingly, Ravi Kumar Dahiya has now secured his place in history as the only second Indian wrester to ever enter the Olympics final after Sushil Kumar, who achieved the feat earlier in the 2012 London Olympics.
It may be mentioned that Dahiya will now wrestle Zaur Uguev of Russia in the final match scheduled on Thursday. Experts are of the view that he has the potential and talent to become India's second-ever individual gold medalist at Tokyo Olympics following the victory of Abhinav Bindra back in 2008 at the Beijing Olympics wrestler
Dahiya, following the end of the first period had a 2-1 lead but Sanayev was seen strong enough as he came prepared. He attacked Dhaiya's left leg, getting a good grip of that turned him thrice to log six points in a jiffy. But the iron-willed Dahiya in the remaining one minute was still strong enough for Sanayev and was able to turn the table and of course, he did it in style.
Notably, even during his previous bouts, Dahiya was always reflecting his dominance over his opponents as he won both his previous contests on technical superiority that gave him his tickets to the final.
Meanwhile, this gala performance of the Indian wrestler was appreciated by the Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, who tweeted, "Terrific game by Ravi Kumar Dahiya. Congratulations on qualifying for #Wrestling Finals of #Tokyo2020. We wish you all the best! #Cheer4India #Olympics"
The Assam CM who has been constantly cheering for the Indian performances at the Tokyo Olympics, in his earlier tweet, lauded the achievement of Neeraj Chopra in the Javelin throw category while he entered the finals, during the Olympics.
