GUWAHATI: The Congress party on Monday staged a statewide protest against the Assam Police Sub Inspector (SI) Examination scam where the APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) district committees demonstrated in front of their respective SP offices.

In Guwahati, the protest was held under the Guwahati City District Congress Committee (GCDCC). According to reports, the protestors were halted by the police personnel near the Panbazar Meghdoot Bhawan while they were marching towards the Commissionerate of Police. To restrict the protestors, the police erected barricades following which the latter resorted to demonstrate near the Meghdoot Bhawan.

The outraged Congress workers raised slogans against the government for not being able to successfully conduct the SI recruitment examination.

Demanding resignation of the Chief Minister, GCDCC president Kushal Kumar Sarma said, "The BJP-led government has restricted the investigation of the scam to BJP leader Dibon Deka and former DIG PK Dutta. If the investigation is conducted in an impartial manner then several 'big fishes' will be exposed. Thus, we demand a judicial inquiry by a sitting judge of the Gauhati High Court."

Further, he stressed that after the SI scam was brought to light, the appointments which have been made following various recruitment examinations are under suspicion.

"The government has not been able conducted a single examination without any controversy. Several BJP leaders are involved with the scam, thus the investigation is being directed towards the Congress leaders. If Congress leaders are involved in the scam then inquiry should be set up for them. But the involved BJP leaders should also be investigated," Sarma opined.

It is to be mentioned that the protest was attended by several APCC leaders.
