Assam Police will reportedly establish ten new commando battalions. In addition, 12,000 commandos and 23,000 civil police officials will be employed by the Assam Police.
While delivering his statement today, Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta acknowledged this build-up.
"Today, in a meeting with Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma, various internal issues including crime control measures, special branch administration, expeditious investigation, maintenance of law and order in the state were discussed. We are going to go ahead with radical reforms in the special branch of Assam Police because of chief minister Dr Sharma's dream of decorating Assam police in a new form," said Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.
DGP Mahanta stated that the new commando battalions will be established in specific areas of the state to defend Assam's geographical integrity or to prevent a threat to India's sovereignty.

With the Assam DGP and several SPs, CM Himanta Sarma discussed strategies to make Assam one of the top states in terms of internal security.
Ways to update the police task force in order to combat new types of criminal activity were carefully examined during the conference. The decision to construct a ten-man Professional Commando battalion to strictly combat criminal activity was affirmed.
The Assam CM tweeted that two shifts will be imposed at all police stations to lessen the pressure on police officers, and that 23,000 civil police officers and 12,000 commando police officers will be added to the system.
Police quarters will be built with the well-being of police officers in mind. The recruitment standards for police officers will be changed in order to bring in more professionally skilled and competent personnel.
Two annual conferences will be held, one for SPs and one for DCs, to help them handle various challenges. Seven forensic laboratories will be established in Assam. Police officers living in battalions in various stations would be granted one month of special leave to be with their families.
Once a year, police officers will be required to undergo a free health check-up. Assam police would have zero tolerance for cow smuggling and drug trafficking. All SPs have been told that their districts may not be utilised as transit routes, announced CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, concluding his series of tweets.
