12 more Guwahati police personnel tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus on Sunday (August 9)

Guwahati: 12 more Guwahati police personnel tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus on Sunday (August 9). With this, the cumulative tally of COVID-19 infected police personnel in the city rose to 592.

Although the number of COVID-19 infected personnel in the city is relatively high, the recovery rate is also exemplary. To date, 524 police personnel in the city have recovered from the dreaded disease. Of those, 4 personnel were released from city COVID Care Centers on Monday, August 10. Two men in uniform from the city have so far succumbed to the coronavirus disease in Guwahati.

Earlier today, Assam's Director General of Police, Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, also tested positive for the coronavirus. Reportedly, the Director-General of Police is undergoing home isolation after testing positive for the dreaded virus. According to reports, Mahanta's driver has also been infected with the virus. However, his security guards have tested negative for the coronavirus.

On Monday, the number of casualties in the city due to the disease rose by 6. Of those, 3 deaths were reported from the Kamrup (M) area, which has the highest incidence of virus cases in the entire state.

"Six more COVID patients succumbed to their infections~ Late Sanjib Kumar Bhuyan (52) of S'pur; Late Subir Kumar Das (70) of K'ganj; Late Salil Choudhury (58) of D'garh; Late Kali Santosh Bhattacharjee (68), Late Chandan Mahanta (26) & Late Ashok K Choudhury (65) of Kamrup M", health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on Twitter, announcing the deaths.
