Guwahati: Amid the continuing uptick in the number of Covid-19 cases in Assam, 29 patients were released from the state's hospitals after testing negative for the deadly contagion. With these releases, the number of active cases in the state has come down to 1,428.

The discharged patients 14 from the Mahendra Mohan Chaudhary Hospital (MMCH), 5 from the Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital (FAAMC) in Barpeta, 4 from the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), 3 from the Golaghat Civil Hospital, 2 from the Dhemaji Civil Hospital, and one from the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), informed the state's Finance and Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Amid the return of Assam citizens who were stranded amid the coronavirus triggered lockdown, the state has witnessed an unprecedented spurt in the number of Covid-19 cases. Yesterday, 76 patients were released from the state health facilities, while 195 fresh cases were added to the overnight tally of 1561.
