Guwahati: The coronavirus pandemic has hit the state hard. The COVID-19 cases of the state have crossed the 2 lakh mark. Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the state health and family welfare minister tweeted on Saturday that the total COVID-19 cases in Assam stood at 200,391.

642 fresh cases were detected after conducting 23,129 tests. The positivity rate has dropped from around 8% in September to 2.78% in October. The number of active positive cases are 28,442.

The fatalities due to COVID-19 is around 900, with a case fatality rate (proportion of deaths to cases) of 0.43%.'

171,081 people have recovered and discharged from the hospitals. The recovery rate of the state is 85.37%.

At one point, Assam had around 36,000 COVID-19 active cases. Now, it has decreased to 28,000. Sarma requested the people of Assam to maintain COVID-19 safety protocols during the Durga Puja next week.
